AJM RECEIVES GENEROUS DONATIONS DURING RECENT FUNDRAISER

Amidst the recent economic trouble of our nation, Mobile supporters of the America’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program have been more than supportive and demonstrated their love for the program during a recent fundraiser. AJM held the 1st Annual Sunday Night Sensation at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse on Sunday, November 9, collecting more than $10,000 in proceeds from the event. Junior Misses provided musical entertainment for the guests while celebrity waiters from the Gulf Coast kept guests entertained.

Lindsey Brinton, America’s Junior Miss 2008, who returned to Mobile to participate in the Mobile Veterans’ Day Celebration, joined the Junior Misses from the University of South Alabama for vocal and piano performances during the event. Junior Misses from the University of South Alabama included: Lauren Gessner of Ohio, Kaila Mattson of Wisconsin, Twila Tschan of Oregon, and Hannah Yeats of Idaho.

Celebrity waiters included: US Congressman Jo Bonner; City Council President Reggie Copeland; NBC 15’s Jim Loznicka; Press Register’s David Holloway and Roy Hoffman; AJM Past Board President, Phil Kaiser; Pillar’s Chef Filippo Milone; and other famous faces from the Gulf Coast.
AJM is the oldest and largest scholarship program for high school senior girls. The nonprofit program’s mission of America's Junior Miss (AJM) is to empower outstanding high school women by providing scholarship opportunities, developing life skills, and encouraging positive values; and to impact the lives of all young people through the Be Your Best Self outreach program. During the past 51 years, AJM has awarded cash scholarships totaling more than $90 million to girls across the nation. More than 700,000 young women have competed in the program and have achieved success in many fields such as business, medicine, education, performing arts, and other career fields.

AJM’s national sponsors are the City of Mobile and Mobile County. Category sponsors are Alabama Power, Encore Rehabilitation, Mobile Gas, and Regions Bank.

The 52nd America’s Junior Miss National Finals will take place in Mobile on June 25-27, 2009.
