What is your most embarrassing moment? My best friend’s great grandfather passed away and I was going to the wake with another one of my good friends. We had never met her great grandpa, but we were going to support her and the family. The wake was in a town I wasn’t familiar with and little did I know, the funeral home was located next to another funeral home. Her great grandfather was her mom’s dad therefore had her mom’s maiden name which I wasn’t familiar with. I didn’t think it through enough to get the name so I went with my gut and entered the first funeral home with the other people filing in. Being my first wake and all, I felt odd and out of place. It also didn’t help that I could not see into the viewing room to find my friend or her family either. So of course, the only way to find out was to approach the casket and make my way to the back of the room where the family was sitting. As soon as I pay my respects, I look to the back of the room to see my friend and her family nowhere to be found. I went to the wrong wake. The right one was in the other funeral home.
What would we find in your refrigerator right now? Right now, there’s not much in my refrigerator at school but Gatorades and left over Chinese food. I’m getting ready to go home for Thanksgiving break so I’m running low on food. I’m greatful I have a meal plan!
What is your biggest fear? Frogs! Growing up, I was always surprised by TONS of them swimming in my pool during the summer. Sometimes so much I would forfeit a swim on a hot day.
What is the one thing you wish someone had told you about college life that you had to find out on your own? I wish someone told me bring a fan or two! That is the one thing I forgot moving into school in August and boy do I regret it. Living with 3 other girls in a room with no AC was brutal and one fan was not cutting it. We still use them on the chilly days of November because the room gets so hot and stuffy.
What is one goal you have set for yourself and achieved? What is one goal that still remains to be achieved? The one goal I set for myself was to get into a good college and do well. So far, so good! One goal that remains to be achieved is to get on the Deans list! We’ll see at the end of the semester.
Describe your single-most favorite moment from your Distinguished Young Women experience. The entire experience was rewarding, but I would have to say my favorite moment was a compilation of many. Staying with a host family was one of the best parts of my trip to Nationals. It allowed me to meet an incredible and welcoming family, an amazing roommate and sister, see Mobile and Alabama in a different way, and have stress-free leisure time in between rehearsals. No matter how long and exhausting the day was or how hot is was outside, my host brother and sister were always smiling and jumping with energy to see me. My host family supported me and made me feel at home the entire time. I miss them each and everyday and can’t wait to do it again as a Has-Been.
