Get to Know Kaylyn Taylor - Distinguished Young Woman of Nevada for 2015

Kaylyn

Name: Kaylyn Taylor

Age: 18

Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada

College: Utah State University

Major: Vocal Performance Major, and double minoring with a BA in theatre, and in marketing.

What is your favorite food? Macaroni and Cheese…all kinds! I was born a college kid at heart.

What is your favorite TV show? Friends on Netflix. I hang out with them when my friends are busy.

What is the current #1 most played song on your iPod? “Pretty Brown Eyes” by Cody Simpson. Everyone says that blue eyes are beautiful because they are as clear as the tropical ocean, and brown eyes are mud. And you know what? Mud color eyes are amazing. Brown Eyes unite! You know what else is brown? Root beer floats. And those are flipping delicious. So yes, team brown eyes!

What is your most hated household chore? My favorite chore is dishes. Some people think that I am completely bonkers for loving to do dishes, but it makes me feel less stressed when there are no dishes in the sink and the counters are clean. But do not ask me to do your laundry, I can’t stand that chore.

What is your favorite time of year? Fall because of the weather, the colors, and because of the warm accessories. In Las Vegas, leaves don’t fall on the ground in the fall. But being up here at Utah State University, leaves are changing color and falling on the ground and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. In fall, everyone wears scarfs, boots and carries around hot chocolate.

Plan ahead OR procrastinate? Plan ahead

Paper OR plastic? Plastic

Glass half-full OR glass half-empty? Glass half full

Introvert OR extrovert? Extrovert

Cats OR Dogs? DOGS

Morning person OR night person? Night

What is your most embarrassing moment? My most embarrassing moment was when I had an important meeting at school, and I had to wear professional clothes. It was not a typical day because this meeting was really important, and caused a lot of stress about my outfit. I was walking into my school all worried about what my outfit looked like. Was it too old? Too young? Was there a stain on the back of my brand new white a-line skirt? Maybe my skirt was tucked into my underwear and no one told me?! Seriously, my mind was going nuts. And you know what? I was too busy worrying about what I looked like, I forgot about my feet! No, not the shoes I was wearing, my actual feet! I tripped on the stairs and that was not the problem. I trip all the time, that’s not embarrassing to me anymore. I fell right on my face. Yup, that’s right. On my face. And that wasn’t the embarrassing part either. I fall on my face all of the time. This specific fall was special. Because my white skirt was so cute and flirty that opps, one wrong move and its over your head. Yup. That’s right. My skirt went over my head. Good thing I was wearing cute pink underwear that everyone could see. And my dear friend that was walking with me picked me up by the arms, and I turned to her and said “if that doesn’t get me a date, nothing will”. And we just kind of laughed it off. I mean it could have been worse. My crush could have been standing right there.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? I would trade places with Kristin Chenoweth because I think that she is so fun, talented, and amazing. We also find love in the same things, such as, theatre, singing, dancing, dogs, and being all around a happy person.

What is your biggest fear? My biggest fear is being kidnapped, being put in a trunk, and hopefully being able to escape a serial killer. I am super interested in serial killers and I went through this serial killer documentary stage where all I did was read and watching things about serial killers and it really freaked me out. monitor web page for changes . I would never ever ever want to be in that situation. And I just realized that this got serious really quick, but I’m here to be honest.

What is the one thing you wish someone had told you about college life that you had to find out on your own? I wish someone had told me that the sleeping situation in college is just weird. I don’t know about you, but sleep is one of my favorite things to do. But when you live in a small apartment with seven other girls it can get a bit cumbersome. All of my roommates have classes at noon, and my classes are early in the morning, so having a party at 2 AM isn’t an issue to them. Earplugs will be one of your new best things because going to college is pointless if you are too tired to pay attention in lectures. Get your sleep!! Get your homework and studying done during the week so you can have fun on the weekends and have time to catch up on sleep.

Sum yourself up in three words. I am fearless, determined, and hard working because I am not afraid to try new things and once I set my mind to something, I continually work hard to complete that goal I had set for myself.

What do you want to be when you grow up and why? I want to be a performer of theatre, a voice teacher, and a mom because all of those things are things that I love and hold dear to my heart. Performing on stage brings me so much joy, and so does teaching people about something I am passionate about. I also want to have a family and be able to have happiness with kids running around making messes.

Describe your single-most favorite moment from your Distinguished Young Women experience. A beloved memory from DYW was meeting all of the girls at Nationals. I came a few days late because of a family emergency, and I was so anxious and worried that all of the girls were already friends, but the first moment I walked into the rehearsal space, I found myself surrounded in hugs and praises of how excited they were to meet Nevada. And I knew that this program was the right thing for me to be involved in and that I was where I was supposed to be because I was surrounded by so much love from the other girls.
