Get to Know Janessa Palmer - Distinguished Young Woman of Minnesota 2013

Name: Janessa Palmer

Age: 18
Hometown: Willmar, Minnesota
College: University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
Major: Animal Science (pre-veterinary) Minor: Spanish
What is your favorite TV show: Doctor Who, as for favorite Doctor, David Tennant!

What is your favorite olympic sport: Swimming

#1 Most Played Song on iPod: All The Small Things by Blink-182

What is your favorite movie: Iron Man!

What is your favorite quote: He’s like fire and ice and rage. He’s like the night and the storm in the heart of the sun. He’s ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time and can see the turn of the universe, and… he’s wonderful.” Doctor Who, Season 3, Episode 9
Plan ahead or procrastinate: I like to know what’s happening ahead of time, but when it comes down to it, I tend to be a procrastinator!
Paper or plastic: I’m all for saving the environment, so I’m good as long as you recycle!
Glass half-full OR glass half-empty: Glass half full. I believe this so firmly, there isn’t even another option. Life is how you view it, and that’s my perspective. :)
Introvert or extrovert: I am completely an extrovert! I LOVE being at the center of the excitement, meeting people and taking part in new things!
Cats or dogs: Dogs! No real reason, I just find them easier to get along with.
Morning or night person: I like waking up early to enjoy coffee and sunrises after staying up until the wee hours of the morning… Sleep is for the weary!

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you absolutely need for survival? If a plane is not an option, I would bring my horse for transportation and companionship, a lighter for heat and cooking, and a high quality sleeping bag for obvious reasons.

What would we find in your refrigerator right now? Right now I my fridge is filled with gatorade! I’m in the marching band, so keeping our electrolytes up is a priority!

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be? I would trade places with Rose Tyler, from Doctor Who. She is such a strong, courageous and kind character with her heart on her sleeve and her head on her shoulders. Plus, she got to see all of the wonderful places and times with the Doctor!
Describe your single-most favorite moment from your Distinguished Young Women experience. My single-most favorite memory of Distinguished Young Women (so far) has been getting to know 49 girls from all over America. We spent so much time together teasing each other about our accents (I cannot tell you how many times I was asked to repeat the word ‘boat’..), and we saw each other through the highs and lows of the two weeks we were together. Practice, projects, INTERVIEWS, and yes, the humidity… Those weeks were too short, but through them I met and made some of the greatest friendships of my life.
